Can we revive extinct species?

Genetic cloning, which has been used to clone Dolly the sheep, could be the answer to de-extinction for animal species that are long gone. The problem is the need for a sample of the animal’s genetic code, which is hard to get when the animal has been extinct for centuries, and if one manages to get a sample it will most likely be fragmented. CRISPR technology can solve some missing genetic code in the fragmentation, but it will create a species that is not identical to the extinct one.
