Adults’ ability to drink milk developed during times of hunger

Humans are the only species that can drink milk in adulthood. The enzyme lactase, responsible for digesting milk, had developed as a mutation during times of hunger when the body needed to digest more food options in order to survive. Communities that drank more milk have a higher lactase percentage.
