Brazil’s former president, Jair Bolsonaro, encouraged Amazon logging, and during his presidency, the Amazon has seen record tree logging. The newly elected president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, appointed Marine Silva, an Amazon activist, as the minister of environment protection. Doing so is a huge step in his way to 0 logging, as promised in his campaign.
