Rhythm vs. melody in different languages

Some languages, such as Mandarin and Thai, are tone-based, while others are more mathematical, such as Hebrew and Spanish. Research to check people’s ability to better differentiate rhythm and melodies based on their native language revealed that tonal language speakers can tell melodies better, while other language speakers can tell rhythm better.
