Silent gene mutations are mutations that do not change the protein sequence structure and were thought to be insignificant. In a study done in Michigan, 75.9% of silent mutations caused serious damage to the cell’s survival ability. Silent gene mutations may not change the protein sequence structure, but they have an effect on the number of proteins created.
