The polar research ship has completed a year of basic exercises and experiments at sea and is ready to set off for the first time towards the pole and start doing the role for which it was established – the study of the climate crisis.
The full name of the ship is The RRS Sir David Attenborough, named after David Attenborough who founded it.
The ship is currently on the Thames and is connected to Greenwich so that the public can come and be impressed by it and be a kind of exhibit to mark the opening of the climate conference that will open in Glasgow.
Its first ocean voyage will go to Antarctica for the new austral summer research season..
It is expected to embark on November 18th.
The ship is supposed to make its way to Antarctica through meter thick ice cubes and come out unscathed and unharmed in its speed and pace.
The ship cost £ 200 million and has a helicopter landing space, laboratory and cranes on board and is capable of deploying submarines and sampling equipment in the ocean.
The ship’s research results will help understand better the Global Warming
