The fashion industry tried to adopt the vegan-sustainable world trend, as 150 big brands adopted the name ‘vegan leather’ for a fossil-fuel plastic fabric. The Higg Index, which is supposed to estimate and minimize the fashion industry’s carbon footprint, prefers synthetic fabrics created from fossil fuels over natural fabrics. The ‘vegan leather’ gave many brands a false ‘green’ reputation, while the actual production of these fabrics is very polluting.
