At least one person was killed in the huge demonstrations held today in the Isfahan area of Iran, due to the ongoing water crisis plaguing the country. The Zainda River has dried up almost completely due to the ongoing drought and delayed rains, and farmers are outraged at the government’s failed handling of the crisis. Iran has been suffering from repeated water crises for many years, the last of which hit the southern province of Khuzestan. Sights of dry wells and rivers are no stranger to the country’s farmers, and residents are also often forced to get water from water trucks that roam the cities and rural areas. The water crisis does not miss the neighboring countries – Iraq, Turkey and Syria, as written on this site in the past.
