Gene therapy breakthrough in Artemis-SCID treatment

Ten young children born with Artemis-SCID, a gene mutation that causes the immune system not to work and therefore lack the power to fight infections, have been in gene therapy trials at UC San Francisco. The gene treatment had already shown better results in improving their condition than the usual treatment of bone marrow transplant.
