The Notothenioid is a fish that can live in the freezing -2 degrees Celsius water in the Antarctic. Scientists found it had evolved a special anti-freeze protein. One subgroup of the Notothenioids had even lost its oxygen-binding hemoglobin and is the only known vertebrate that does not have red blood cells.
