Orca mothers make a huge sacrifice to raise their sons

A study done for many years on Orca whales in the Pacific Ocean revealed that raising a son takes an enormous energetic toll on the mother. While female Orcas mature at a young age, male Orcas need their mother’s care for many years. The mother will give up half of her food and tend to all her son’s needs, compromising her own health and reproductive abilities in the future.
