Glacial lakes are plentiful, most of them in Asia and South America, with over a million people living just 10 km away from them. Glaciers are melting rapidly due to global warming and could potentially cause massive floods that would risk the lives of over 15 million people. Natural dams blocking glacial lakes from reaching humans can fail at any moment, and the results would be catastrophic.
