Scientists attached electrodes to a goldfish to understand the fish’s navigational system. They found that nerve cells that have a decreasing activity as the fish swims away from borders such as the aquarium’s walls or floor. These nerve cells were found in birds and mammals too, but were thought to be active because of the direction the animal is heading, now scientists thing it might have to do with distance from objects.
