MOXIE is an instrument the size of a lunchbox, which NASA has been experimenting with since February 2021 to create oxygen on Mars. Mars’s atmosphere is rich in carbon dioxide, and MOXIE can produce six grams of oxygen per hour from it, the same amount a small tree can produce on earth.
