The Republic of Congo first marine protected areas

The Republic of Congo announced its first 3 marine protected areas, which cover 12% of the country’s exclusive economic marine zone. The areas protect turtle nesting grounds, critical whale migrating routes, more than 40 species of sharks and rays, and much more marine flora and fauna. The areas will have a communal fishing area for local fishermen.
